Hanover Park Cabernet Franc

Tuesday, August 24th, 2004

So just to keep a running tally…the only wine I have really enjoyed from the YVA is the Shelton Vineyards 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon.

To my great surprise, I tried a wine from Hanover Park and really enjoyed it. I’ve only driven by Hanover Park a couple times, nut nothing there has ever really interested me enough to stop in. Their vines seemed to vigorous, the terrain unremarkable and the whole place just looked sort of back wards. But I was at the Surry Gift Shoppe in downtown Elkin and decided to give their Cab. Franc a try. I’m kicking myself that I don’t remember the vintage, but I will go back to the shoppe soon and report back on the year when I do…anyways, I thought the wine was very nice.

I’d still probably go with Shelton’s 2001 Cab. Sauv if forced to choose, but Hanover did a really great job of putting out a Cab. franc that actually (gasp!) seems to display some of the flavor compounds typical of the varietal. I’d buy this wine again, which says quite a bit since there are few YVA wines which I would buy again! Good Job Hanover Park!
