First Test of New Sanyo Xacti ca6 Video

Monday, September 11th, 2006

So far I am very very pleased with this new gadget. My 2gb SD card works great and the transfer rate between it any my pc is awesome. The video quality at 640×480 at 30 fps is excellent. The file extension is .MP4 and is immediately playable on my notebook with quicktime installed. File size is ok for short web video shots. I can upload the video directly the web and playback without encoding using my pcplanets.com site. Here is the very first, unedited video I have ever took…it’s very shaky as I am just messing around…you’ll have to hit play to view it.

Grapes For Sale vs. grapes Wanted

Monday, September 11th, 2006

To illustrate the growing supply demand imbalance present not only in the Yadkin Valley but apparently in Virginia as well, take a look at the email I just received listing grapes for sale versus grapes wanted. Pretty crazy. No one publishes a list like this in the Yadkin Valley, so I don’t what it’s like around here.

Copperheads are out!

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Jen and I took a couple pics of our first, real copperhead today. Now that the temps are cooling down a bit, they are coming out on the roads to warm themselves. Today I saw a three foot long black snake and a two foot copper head that had just been run over by a car. Here are the pics:

Sanyo VPC-CA6 is coming my way!

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

I want to start doing some video blogging. However, I really wanted a camcorder that could record in MPEG-4 to a 2GB+ SD card. After much research I decided to try out the Sanyo VPC-CA6. I almost splurged for the HD1, but I’m not sure I need it yet and I’m not sure how much quality difference there would be after the video is run through an encoder. The VPC-CA6 is new, just out and it does support the SDHC 4gb+ format…not usre if it supports FAT32 for regular “SD” cards that are 4GB, but on a couple of boards they said that the c6 would read the 2gb 133x OCZ SD cards, so I ordered one of those… I might get it by Friday, but probably next week sometime.

Here’s a pic:

Update on my grapes, vineyard sprayer person needed!

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

As I expected, I returned home to no grapes. The fruit wasn’t very good anyway..this time it wasn’t deer but birds that did me in! I know this because deer tend to strip and leave a mess, birds pick everything real clean…I mean there wasn’t even 1 or 2 berries left! Pretty funny.

Quite a bit of work left to do this fall…more trellising work and some rework of existing trellising….hope to get some seed down soon, as well as one more very good liming this fall. We also are going to completely fence the entire perimeter…it’s just more work than it’s worth to have motion detectors, etc. and ultimately while they work, they don’t work 100%. I need to keep the deer out period. I’d rather clamp the fencing to the posts by the road and when I need to mow or spray, just unclamp it, roll it up, mow and then put it back in place….it’s the only way to keep the deer out and avoid all the damage like I sustained this year.

Next year, I was going to buy a sprayer, but now I am thinking of trying to find someone who might do mobile spraying..they’d just have to pull up, take 30 minutes to spray and then go on to the next vineyard…that would be cool. If anyone is in this business, please call me at 612-501-2548.

Next year I’ll have to buy some bird netting as well I guess…should be a good year…I learned a lot this year and right now my grapes are disease free!!! No downey mildew yet!
